Platforms

My life used to be simple, well not really, but it was organized.
When I had my gift shop, I'd get up at 6 a.m. get on the computer,
check emails and catch up with friends and family on facebook,
go open up the shop at 9 a.m. come home for lunch at noon and
check in back in on the computer, back to work and
then check back in after dinner. Simple, right?
Well now that I am at home all the time and writing...
There are blogs to maintain, twitterers to tweet, websites, groups, profiles...
Well you get the idea. With Facebook and all the changes they have been making
I have a hard time trying to keep up with everyone, With family and friends and groups and pages liked and subscribed to, I'm just about at the 5,000 limit. 99 new notification notices every morning.
I do like the changes Twitter has made though, especially making it easy to keep up with
conversations without have to go back through 200 tweets just to find out why someone laughed at whatever you said...
How does everyone keep up with everything going on and not go completely insane! Much less have time to write and clean house? Yep, life was simpler when I ran my own business :-))

How's your platform holding up? Tweet, tweet!

  1. Oh, how I empathise! Before all this happened, I was recently retired and enjoying the flexibility that brought to my life. Then I started writing for fun and now it's taken off and it's tweet, write, facebook, write, blog, write and so on, ad infinitum.
I have to say, though, that it's mainly great fun. I'm working hard to set time goals on social media. An experienced writer recently wrote that she restricted her time to an hour a day and she used a timer to call a halt. The rest of the time, she was being creative. If people don't like the lack of contact, then maybe that's just the way it has to be.
Good luck with the book - I'm off to check out some of your writing. Oh, and do some of my own!

  2. Hi Stuart! Oh don't get me wrong I am loving it too! I feel like Dorothy and have gotten caught up in a big WHIRLWIND! And it is exhilarating! I now follow your blog on wordpress, I have one there too :-) And headed your way real quick, because I actually have a lunch date with an old friend. Wow I am getting out of the house and off the computer for a couple of hours! Have a super awesome day!

  3. Oh my, I don't even Tweet (yet) and I have a hard time keeping up. I don't know how you do it! There are not enough hours in the day as far as I'm concerned, but that's a good thing, right? Sometimes I wish I didn't have to sleep! lol

    1. You don't tweet? Oh we need to get you on twitter! lol There aren't enough hours and sometimes most of those hours are spent here on the computer, with some multi tasking on dishes and laundry :-)I have 3 pages on fb plus my personal page, 4 blogs total, plus different groups all over the web.

  4. I get you. I'm in a similar predicament. I met lots of friends online and can't give them up by simply stopping the social network scene. At the same time...it does get to be, as you said in the comment to Stuart, a whirlwind. I need days where I can just breath! LOL Facebook, Twitter, Blogger...it does get too much at times! ;)

    1. Hi Jack! Yes some days we do need to just shut down, the computer that is, and take a break. Yes, I have met some wonderful friends online too. I recently found this quote on facebook and have it as my desktop background to help me remember that sometimes we just need to get up from the computer and get out of the house!
"Taking Time to Live Life, Will only Inspire Your Work"
And I did just that today. I enjoyed a wonderful 2 hour lunch with an old friend that I haven't seen in 8 months.
